My Review
What a brilliant and moving medico-thriller this book turned out to be! It's not often that we come across pacy racy books that manage to tug at our heartstrings while keeping us hooked with a gripping plot, and in that, Johnson delivers a total winner. The topic revolves around something that would have everyone of us ponder over it for long - bodily autonomy, and giving back to the world. When we are introduced to Calla, our hearts go out to her seeing the ridicule she gets to face, but then her guts and tenacity astound us. She does not hesitate to put others ahead of her and through all the twists and turns with the book, she continues to endear us with her two sides of fragile vulnerability and gumption. This is a book I absolutely recommend, and I am thankful to author Catherine Devore Johnson, the publishers Green Leaf Book Group, and Dorothy from PUYB for gifting me with a copy of this book.
Catherine Devore Johnson is a former attorney turned writer. Her work has won or placed in competitions held by the Houston Writer’s Guild and the Writer’s League of Texas, and she has published an essay in The Houston Chronicle about caring for her mother after two strokes. She works as a writer and editor at a children’s hospital and lives in Houston with her husband and two children. The Panacea Project is her first novel.
