Disturbing but intense, slightly cliched but captivating, and grim but realistic; that’s this book for you. Roy doesn’t seem repentant on painting a less-than-desirable picture of India, which I do hold against her, but the panache with which she has dealt with themes as heavy as child abuse, gender stereotypes, and past reminiscences, is something to be admired about. It’s a gripping but unconventional read.
